Floyd is a sound, well-balanced black and tan Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who I’m very proud to have bred and raised. He has correct structure and true Cavalier movement, with qualities I value deeply in a wholecolour male.
He has a complete scissor bite with excellent dentition and no dental overcrowding. His front is well-constructed and matched by a strong rear, giving him plenty of drive from behind. He moves correctly coming and going, stands four-square, and carries his tail just as a Cavalier should. Floyd has correct, moderate bone and substance — nothing overdone, yet certainly not lacking — and he maintains his ideal weight of 8kg.
His front construction, in particular, has drawn compliments from judges and experienced gundog breeders alike, with several remarking on how correct it is — a quality that is notoriously difficult to achieve in the breed.
He also has a beautiful soft, melting expression, with large, round, dark eyes that are so typical of the breed and one of my favourite features about him.
Floyd is proven at stud, and I believe he will be a valuable asset to the future of the wholecolours. He is more than just beautifully put together; he’s intelligent, gentle, and affectionate, with a respectful and loving nature that makes him an absolute pleasure to live with.
Stud availability: Floyd is available at stud to approved, fully health-tested bitches under a stud contract. Frozen semen is also available for shipping worldwide.

Curly Coat Dry Eye Syndrome
Episodic Falling Down
Airway Distress Syndrome
Floyd is a carrier of:
Congenital Macrothrombocytopenia
Degenerative Myelopathy
Floyd is homozygous for the following Myxomatous Mitral Valve Disease (MMVD) variants:
Myxomatous Mitral Valve Disease 1 [NEBL535 Risk Variant]
Myxomatous Mitral Valve Disease 2 [NEBL576 Risk Variant]
Myxomatous Mitral Valve Disease 3 [NEBL724 Candidate Variant] – Resulted A) for increased risk for early onset MMVD
Myxomatous Mitral Valve Disease 4 [NEBL890 Risk Variant]
Myxomatous Mitral Valve Disease 5 [NEBL498 Risk Variant]
Floyd has been tested for Myxomatous Mitral Valve Disease (MMVD) and is homozygous for several genetic variants associated with the condition. It’s important to note that the MMVD DNA test is currently in the research phase, and while Floyd carries these variants, it does not necessarily mean he will develop MMVD at an early stage. Many Cavaliers with similar genetic profiles have remained heart-clear into their later years, demonstrating that the presence of these variants does not guarantee early onset of MMVD.
Research into MMVD in Cavaliers has shown that the majority of Cavaliers tested for MMVD genetic variants (around 97%) are homozygous for these risk factors, yet many remain heart-clear into their double digits (Cavalier Matters, 2023). Additionally, forbearers of Floyd have demonstrated exceptional heart health, with some remaining heart-clear into their teens, suggesting that genetic predisposition may not directly correlate with early onset of the disease.
Given the ongoing research into MMVD, the genetic test remains in the developmental phase. It is essential to continue studying these markers to better understand their role in disease progression and longevity in Cavaliers.
For further information on MMVD and the ongoing research, please refer to the resources from Cavalier Matters (2023).
